Safety Assessments

Safety Assessments

Safety Assessments are similar to Stage 3 Road Safety Audits for locations on the existing highway network, where no changes have been made or are proposed, but where there is a suspicion, backed by fact or otherwise, that the road in question is dangerous, or presents hazards considered unacceptable. The Safety Assessment service can be useful for organisations who lack the expertise to make an objective assessment based on road safety experience and knowledge.

As with a Safety Audit, the road or roads in question will be assessed from the perspective of all types of road user, and the potential risks considered in conditions of daylight, darkness, and inclement weather. Additionally, the history of injury-related collisions recorded at the site will be studied, to establish if there are any patterns of repeated behaviour in the causatory factors. Should the assessment identify a level of risk which requires attention, remedial measures will be recommended.

A Safety Assessment will normally take the form of an informal site visit, and a conversation with the Client. If the Assessor believes a significant safety issue or issues exists at the site he  measures to make further investigations, and to provide a formal written report summarising his findings, and recommended remedial measures.
